Get Real

Get Real

Real projects. Real impact. Real-ly good careers.
The Michigan Tech campus is located right on the Portage Canal, connecting to Lake Superior, just a few miles away. Students take advantage of its refreshing water year round, from kayaking in the summer to quick dips in the winter before ducking into a sauna (yes, we’re serious).

Environmental Engineering
Lake Superior: the largest freshwater lab in the world. Our environmental engineering students gain real-world experience on our research vessel, the R/V Agassiz. They also have access to 43,000 square feet of research and teaching laboratories.  Whether on the water or in the lab, our students have the space and freedom to think big.
Meet Abby, Environmental Engineering student

Civil Engineering
Spanning the Portage to Keweenaw Peninsula is a civil engineering marvel: the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Our civil engineering students think big each time they watch the bridge—all 35,000 tons of concrete and 7,000 tons of steel—raise to let boats pass through. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide the tools engineers use to design and deploy sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Meet Jake, Civil Engineering student
